There are many different services you can use to build a web site for your UGA Department, Center, Institute, Program, Faculty, Lab or Student web site. These are services like wix.com, weebly, wordpress.org, etc. There are a few rules you need to be aware of before making any decisions about using one of these services. Please look at your specific case to find out the process and requirements

Using UGA domains on Third Party Hosting or Services

An official UGA web site is one that provides information about official UGA academic or non-academic programs, and uses the UGA trademark and name. If your web site is an official UGA web site, your site MUST be connected to a UGA domain. Use of UGA trademark and names on a web site that is not connected to a UGA domain is not permitted. The third party service you are using will require you to agree to terms of service. Before you agree to these terms of service on behalf of UGA, you must must get the requisite approval through Procurement, UGA Legal Affairs, and Infosec.

Requirements

  • Regardless of whether the service is free or paid, you are committing to terms of use on behalf of UGA - you must get the requisite approval through Procurement, UGA Legal Affairs, and Infosec. (is there a source for this? )
  • You must use the UGA trademark and name to identify your site as an official UGA web site. Follow the trademark and licensing requirements in doing so. https://brand.uga.edu/university-logos

Non-UGA web site using Third Party Hosting or Services

Requirements

If your site does not use the UGA trademark or name, then you are free to use whatever third party service you would like. However, your web site does not qualify to use a UGA domain.
