Mac installation:

Note on installing Fiji or ImageJ for Mac

Follow these instructions to install for a single user on your Mac.  Franklin OIT removed the multi-user version from the Managed Software Center because of underlying security issues related to Java.

  1. Download the software from https://imagej.net/Fiji (or https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/download.html).
  2. Choose the macOS link to download the software.
  3. When the download has completed, look for the application in your Downloads folder.
    1. If you do not see it, double click on the fiji-macosx.zip file to decompress the software.
  4. Drag the FIJI application to your Desktop or to another folder inside of your home folder.
    1. If more than one user on a shared computer needs FIJI, repeat these steps for each user.
  5. Double click on FIJI to open the software. (See the note below if you encounter an error.)

When opening Fiji for the first time, you may receive an error that says "Fiji can't be opened because it it from an unidentified developer." Apple inserts this warning because FIJI is developed by an "unknown" developer. To bypass this warning, control-click (right-click on the program and then click "Open."
