Self Recover Lost or Deleted Files or Folders from Franklin Network Shares

VSS (Volume Shadow Service) / Self-Recovery:

VSS is a service that runs on the Franklin OIT File servers to provide access to self-recover data. The systems take snapshots of the data throughout the day and those are available for all users to recover from.

How to Perform a Self-Recovery

To Recover a deleted file

  1. Find the location of where the file was stored
    1. For example: 'My Documents'
  2. Navigate to the parent folder that stored the file or folder and Right-click on it and select Restore Previous Versions.
  3. A list of versions of the folder will appear.  Click on the folder with the date you believe the file was saved and click Open
  4. Verify the missing file is present.  Close the window and click Restore OR the files can be dragged and dropped from the snapshot browser to a destination of preference.
  5. Click Restore again and then click OK.  The folder and files will be reset to the date of the folder selected.

To Recover a deleted folder

  1. Find the location of where the folder was stored
  2. Navigate to the parent folder that contained the deleted folder and right-click on it, selecting Restore Previous Versions
  3. Right-click on a blank space in the folder that has to be recovered. Go to Properties > Previous Versions.
  4. Select the preferred version of folder and click Copy… or Restore… We suggest choosing the Copy… option as this way you can test if the selected version is the one that you need.
  5. Simply choose the location to save the copy and click Copy.
