Overview

Cisco AnyConnect VPN is supported by EITS for accessing campus resources that are restricted to the campus network. Most 3rd party VPN services you may be familiar with (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, SurfShark, etc.,) establish a single “tunnel” to the campus network, making your device appear as though it is in the same location as the VPN service. Unlike those services, the campus provided VPN utilizes “split-tunneling” which means only network traffic intended for campus is routed through the Cisco VPN. All other traffic routes normally from your location.

Cisco AnyConnect VPN and International Travel

Members of the UGA community who are traveling internationally may have a need to route all traffic through a “full tunnel.” This feature can be enabled on a case-by-case basis. Submit a ticket to EITS here requesting international VPN access for your MyID. You can then connect your Cisco client to remote.uga.edu/international to use the full tunnel. Requests can also be submitted by the Office of Global Engagement on your behalf.

Installing 3rd party VPN services (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, etc.)

At this time there are no policy requirements that prohibit the use of 3rd party VPNs for privacy reasons. Submit a ticket to Franklin OIT for assistance installing the client.
