Understanding Digital Accessibility
Why should I be concerned and how does this apply to me?
A new federal rule now requires state and local governments—including public higher education institutions—to ensure that all digital content is accessible to individuals with disabilities. This includes websites, course materials, mobile applications, electronic documents, e-mail, and social media content.
Issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, this update to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was published on April 24, 2024, and became effective on June 24, 2024. As part of a public institution, Franklin College must be in full compliance by April 24, 2026.
