How to Restore Your Backup Onto a New Computer

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log into the CrashPlan App.
    1. Open CrashPlan from the Windows menu on PC or the Applications folder on Mac.
    2. The app should automatically redirect you to a CAS log in screen.
    3. You will need to authenticate with your MyID and password, then DUO.
  2. Select "Replace Existing" on the next screen, then click the "Start" button.
  3. Select the old computer from the list on the next screen then click the "Continue" button.
  4. On the next screen, click the "Select Files" button.
  5. Select the files you wish to transfer by checking the boxes beside the folders, then click the "Restore Files..." button.
  6. On this screen, you will select the options that best fit your needs.
    The following options are highly recommended:
    1. Save selected files to: Original Location
    2. If file already exists: Rename
    3. Permissions: Current
  7. Now, click the "Go" button. As the messages on the previous screens mentioned, the restore may take a while. In some cases you can watch the files pop onto the desktop automagically.
